Children of Addicted Parents

This course provides support and education to children and youth who are exposed to drug, and or, alcohol abuse within their families.  This course is a preventative measure to lower the risks of the child/youth from eventually developing alcohol or other drug abuse and mental health problems themselves.

United Hearts

United Hearts is a support group developed by Meaningful Minds United for individuals with mental health or substance use challenges who are in recovery or contemplating recovery.  This is a safe place that was created by individuals with lived experience for persons with lived experience.  Together we share in the journey of recovery as we explore non-pharmacological methods of promoting recovery and securing a place for their voice to be heard.   There are no commitments to attend but this space is available monthly to all, including family members.

A Word From Our President and CEO

Jennifer Randal-Thorpe President and CEO
Picture
Meaningful Minds United, Inc. is a peer driven organization commencing in 2005. We have always thrived on providing our local community and the state of Louisiana with direct peer services, recovery, and support programs, continuing educational programs, and awareness activities for individuals with behavioral health challenges. However, the 2020 pandemic brought forth more challenges as well as more awareness of what was needed, not only in our beautiful state, but we came to recognize, we had something special to offer to the world, united.

During the 2020 pandemic, I was led to research how the agency was functioning. I discovered there was a need to bring the vision and mission of the organization back to fruition. In these changing times, there has never been a greater need for those who need assistance who have behavioral health challenges. Since we are an organization that is a peer-driven agency with a proven record of success in serving the needs of our community, we have decided to expand our services worldwide.

We have adopted several evidence-based programs for instruction. (Target Health, Emotional CPR, Dimensions Recovery, and Seeking Safety Support Groups in addition to United Hearts Support Group.) Behavioral health will always exist because everyone has a difficulty, a struggle, disappointment, or a storm they experience in life. A positive aspect of coping skills is to have a base for peer support. As Peer Support Specialists we assist individuals in managing their symptoms by providing support to create goals which aid in recovery.
Moving forward, MMU intends to embrace everyone we can, plant a seed, and watch it grow. Our future is bright, but we can never achieve our goals unless we network and collaborate with other agencies. Thus far our training to date has been included the countries of Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and Canada. Behavioral health is nonspecific in gender, race, and nationality. With ZOOM technology we can touch the hearts and minds of a multitude. We will not stop serving, working, or advocating. Should you need our services, we are available to assist you.
****If you or anyone you know is feeling suicidal, we urge you to contact the Suicide Hotline, immediately. We are an organization premised on peer support and are not a medical clinic nor do we employ any medical staff.
